2/25/2008 Math 2
1. HOMEWORK Due today: None
2. Warm-Ups: Meadure Drill w/o sheet
3. Start on the 5x7 dilation

OBJECTIVE: 1.1.4 Understand the concept of direct proportion. 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity and its relationship to congruence. 1.3.3 Describe the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. 1.3.4 Apply a combination of translations and/or reflections to 2 dimensional figures. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Students will do a cartoon dilation as an introduction to scale factors on a coordinate grid. Start by enclosing the figure in a rectangle, then divide the short side into 5 equal parts and the lng axis into 7 equal parts - transfer to a 5x7 grid (no sketching) Spatial skills required. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Page 24 #9

2/26/2008 Math 2
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Page 24 #9
2. Warm-Ups: Measure Drill w/o sheet
3. P26 #14
4. Dictate Space Bunny
5. Last Day for P16 2.1 Wumps

ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Students are to do page 26 problem #14 - applying rules. Give the coordinates of the space bunny (2,1)(5,3)(2,4)(3,3)(1,3)(2.1) for students to plot and then give a set of rules which will move and/or alter the space bunny (in 4 quadrants) NOTES: HOMEWORK: Page 27 #2 & 3

If two or more figures are similar, their sizes can be compared. The scale factor is the ratio of the length of one side on one figure to the length of the corresponding side on the other figure. It is a measure of magnification, the change of size.

  Watch how scale factor works.

2/27/2008 Math 2
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Page 27 #2 & 3
2. Warm-Ups: Measure Drill w/o sheet
3. Finish Space Bunny
4. Harvey Plotter and the Space Bunnies
5. Last Day for 2.3 and 2.4 (noses and Hats)

ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Give the coordinates of the space bunny (2,1)(5,3)(2,4)(3,3)(1,3)(2.1) for students to plot and then give a set of rules which will move and/or alter the space bunny (in 4 quadrants). Students will plot a shape on a 4 quadrant grid and make various transformations as per dictated rule. On the second exercise, they will deduce the rule from the plotted 'bunnies' NOTES: HOMEWORK: Write a rule to make a similar (larger or smaller) space bunny. Plot both.

2/28/2008 Math 2
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Write a rule to make a similar (larger or smaller) space bunny. Plot both.
2. Warm-Ups: Measure Drill w/o sheet
3. Finish Harvey Plotter
4. Sommantico Similar Triangles Worksheet

ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Students will use the worksheet to determine similar triangles as well as various transformations. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Draw two similar scalene triangles whose scale factor is not a whole number or 1/2. List measures for both (angle and sides)

2/29/2008 Math 2
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Draw two similar scalene triangles (see notes)
2. Warm-Ups: Meadure Drill w/o sheet
3. Page 31 Inv 3.3 modified

ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Page 31 Inv 3.3 modified - assignment is a handout with four copies of lab sheet 3.3 to be cut out and assembles into a repeating tile pattern of the same shape. NOTES: HOMEWORK: None
