1. HOMEWORK Due today: Page 31 #9a - be ready to discuss
2. Finish and collect Class height/Age data
3. Warm Up decimal division
4. Page 20ff Problem 2.2 a,c, Follow-Up 1-3

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.3 Describe the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. 1.4.4 Determine and use range and the measures of central tendency of a set of data. 4.2.2 Represent numerical, measurement, geometric, probability, statistical, and/or algebraic information in graphs or other appropriate forms. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Page 20ff Problem 2.2 a,c, Follow-Up 1-3 Make a graph and analyse the data in regard to changes over intervals. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Page 23 Problem 2.3 a

  1. Collect the height in centimeters and age in months for all students in the class on the day assigned.
  2. Calculate the mean (average) height and the mean age.
  3. Arrange the sets of data in order form least to greatest and find the median (middle).
  4. From the median data, determine the mode or modes.
  5. Create two graphs on one grid bys using the median data list to plot the increasing heights and the increasing ages of the class. The x axis will be tick marks for a student in the class (not a specific student, one for each student). The y axis will be a scale determined form the combined age and height data. One graph will be the age in months in sequential order; the other graph will be the heights in centimeters in sequential order.
  6. Using the original data list, generate a scatter plot with the age in months on the x axis and the height in centimeters on the y axis. Use each student's data as an ordered pair.

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.3 Describe the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. 1.4.4 Determine and use range and the measures of central tendency of a set of data. 4.2.2 Represent numerical, measurement, geometric, probability, statistical, and/or algebraic information in graphs or other appropriate forms ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Page 23 Problem 2.3 b and c. Emphasis is on making the table from the graph. NOTES: Period 4 group will attend enrichment (period 7) as a group to work on decimal division this week. HOMEWORK: Page 26 1b

1. HOMEWORK Due today: Page 26 Problem 1b
2. Page 23ff Problem 2.4 a and b as an ASSESSMENT

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.3 Describe the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. 1.4.4 Determine and use range and the measures of central tendency of a set of data.3.1.1 Analyze numerical, measurement, geometric, probability, statistical, and/or algebraic information from a variety of sources. 4.2.2 Represent numerical, measurement, geometric, probability, statistical, and/or algebraic information in graphs or other appropriate forms. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Page 23ff Problem 2.4 a and b as an ASSESSMENT NOTES: HOMEWORK: P23 Prob 2.4 a and b. Check the assessment (rubric).

Pag23 Problem 2.4 Assessment

The Table – Read the narrative thoroughly. You will have to create information from what is given for your table to make sense. There is more then one possible solution.
  1. Is the table/chart drawn with a straightedge?
  2. Does the table include all of the points mentioned in the narrative?
  3. Are the table intervals equal?
  4. Is there a distance entry for each time entry?
  5. x, y axes and labels with chart title
  6. Scales appropriate to the variables
  7. Intervals appropriate to the scales

Scoring Rubric
Points format Interval data Distance data
4 Labeled columns, axes, graph, straightedge Equal intervals, scale and intervals Data appropriate to the description, labeled equal intervals
3 Columns and rows and axes Listed intervals, scale – no equal intervals Data for each entry, x, y coordinates
2 Sorted data, unlabeled axes Narrative listed intervals Narrative data only, non-matching x, y coordinates
1 Times and distance Start/middle/finish, tick marks Random data
