1-16-2007 Math 2
1. HOMEWORK Due today: None
2. Warm-Ups: Equivalent Fractions
3. Space Bunny 1
OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles 1.3.3 Understand the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. 1.3.4 Understand and apply combinations of translations (slides) and reflections (flips) to two-dimensional figures. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Students will work with the application of rules for transformations (slides) and practice reflections (flips) and rotations (turns); These are addressed in the Space Bunny exercises. NOTES: See item specs GS02 HOMEWORK: Page 37 #15

3. P28 Problem 3.1 Model
4. P29 Problem 3.2 Start
OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles 1.3.3 Understand the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Model lesson 3.1 with an emphasis the appearances are not proof. Restate: Angles must be congruent; Sides must be multiplied by the same scale factor OR corresponding pairs of sides must have the same ratio. Proceed to Lesson 3.2. Students will use MIRA to determine lines of symmetry. Next 3.2 A, C and Follow-Up is to be done with partners. Each person has two copies of the lab sheets. Cut out shapes and list the ones which are Rep-Tiles. NOTES: Checklist for Rep-Tiles HOMEWORK: Page 33 2-4

3. P29 Problem 3.2 Continue/Finish
OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles 1.3.3 Understand the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Lesson 3.2. #.2 is to be done with partners and each person has two copies of the lab sheets. Cut out shapes and list the ones which are Rep-Tiles.Provide answers to Follow-Up 1 and 2 on page 31. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Pp34-35 6&7

2. Warm-Ups: Equivalent Fractions
3. P32ff Problem 3.3 + follow-Up
OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles 1.3.3 Understand the location of points on a coordinate grid in any of the four quadrants. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Problem 3.3 is an extension of 3.2 except the shapes are irregular polygons. Emphasis againis similarity which must include angles and side relationships. NOTES: (need a ratio worksheet) HOMEWORK: P35 8-10
Extra Credit - Ask Mr. LeMieux

On a sheet of graph paper, design a video game character (emphasis on intersection points); Create a rule to enlarge/shrink and move the character. The RULE must be included. Point tables are not required.
