The Pantagraph    Similar and Congruent    The Protractor   Practice with a Protractor

12/18/2006 Math 2 bring a calculator
1. HOMEWORK Due today:P9 #1 and P11 #6 (A=pi x r x r); Bring calculator
2. Warm-Ups: Protractor Practice
3. P5ff Investigation 1.1 Modified

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles 1.2.1 Analyze how a change in a linear dimension affects other linear measurements (perimeter, circumference) and area measurements. 1.2.3 Understand how the unit of measure affects the precision of measurement ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: P5ff Investigation 1.1 Modified. Walk through and/or model 1.1 using a rubber band 'stretcher,' also discuss a pantograph. Main emphasis will be on drawing figures on graph paper and then enlarging them by doubling, tripling or some other factor to their dimensions and comparing the lengths of the sides and the area to the process. (see Page 7 part me for the use of 'compare') NOTES: Be sure to discuss 'corresponding' NOTES: Review the powerpoint. HOMEWORK: Draw 2 sets similar triangles.

12/19/2006 Math 2 bring a calculator
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Draw 2 sets similar triangles.
2. Warm-Ups: Draw two similar rectangles with measures; List scale factor

1.2.3 Understand how the unit of measure affects the precision of measurement ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Measure and find the areas of the two homework triangles. Introduction to scale factors - especially as a function of linear measure. Relate to circles and other 2 dimensional shapes. NOTES: Practice drawing on graph paper. HOMEWORK: Draw a shape. Enlarge by a scale factor of 2. Bring a calculator

12/20/2006 Math 2 bring a calculator
1. HOMEWORK Due today:Draw a shape. Enlarge by a scale factor of 2
2. HOMEWORK Due today:Bring a calculator
3. Warm-Ups: Equivalent fractions and decimals
4. Circle Worksheets

1.2.3 Understand how the unit of measure affects the precision of measurement ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Worksheet: Area of Circles - do selected problems. Double the diameter and re solve - compare the areas and the diameters. NOTES: HOMEWORK: None
