12-4-2006 Math 2a
1. HOMEWORK Due today: P92 #8
2. Finish 89-91 as appropriate

OBJECTIVE: 1.4.1 Understand the concepts of complementary, independent, and mutually exclusive events 1.4.2 Understand and apply the procedures for determining the probabilities of multiple trials 1.2.1 Analyze how a change in a linear dimension affects other linear measurements (perimeter, circumference) and area measurements. 1.2.3 Understand how the unit of measure affects the precision of measurement ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Finish 89-92 NOTES: Collect old texts - time permitting, issue Stretching and Shrinking. HOMEWORK: Define Scale Factor; Bring Protractor and ruler

The Protractor

Practice with a Protractor

12-5-2006 Math 2a
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Define Scale Factor
2. HOMEWORK Due today: Protractor and ruler
3. P5ff Investigation 1.1 Modified

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: 2. P5ff Investigation 1.1 Modified. Walk through and/or model 1.1 using a rubber band 'stretcher,' also discuss a pantograph. Main emphasis will be on drawing figures on graph paper and then enlarging them by doubling, tripling or some other factor to their dimensions and comparing the lengths of the sides and the area to the process. (see Page 7 part me for the use of 'compare') NOTES: Be sure to discuss 'corresponding' HOMEWORK: P9 #1 and P11 #6 (A=pi x r x r); Bring calculator

The Pantagraph

Similar and Congruent

12-6-2006 Math 2a bring a calculator
1. HOMEWORK Due today: P9 #1 and P11 #6 (A = π x r²)
2. HOMEWORK Due today: Bring calculator
3. Worksheet: Area of Circles
4. Warm-Ups: Equivalent fractions and decimals

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Worksheet: Area of Circles - do selected problems. Double the diameter and re solve - compare the areas and the diameters. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Draw 2 different triangles. Double the sides and redraw.

12-7-2006 Math 2a
1. HOMEWORK Due today: Draw 2 different triangles. Double the sides and redraw.
2. Find the areas of the triangles (A=(b x h)÷ 2)
3. P15 Investigation 2.1 Drawing Wumps
4. Warm-Ups: Equivalent fractions and decimals

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Solve the hw pages for the area of triangles using accurate measures and the formula - compare the areas to the side length comparison. Start on P15 Investigation 2.1 Drawing Wumps - a series if exercises in the first quadrant - used to determine rules on grids and initial information on scale factor. NOTES: HOMEWORK: None

12-8-2006 Math 2a
1. Warm-Ups: Equivalent fractions and decimals
2. Quiz on enlarging and reducing shapes
3. Finish P15 Investigation 2.1 Drawing Wumps
4. (P16 #C and p18 Inv 2.1 follow-Up 1&2)

OBJECTIVE: 1.3.1 Understand the concept of similarity. 1.3.2 Apply understanding of the characteristics of rectangular prisms and circles ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: P15 Investigation 2.1 Drawing Wumps - finish and answer questions on p16 #C and p18 Inv 2.1 follow-Up 1&2 NOTES: HOMEWORK: P22 3 and 4
