Numbered assignments are listed on the day they are DUE!
Essential vocabulary: Change, Coordinate graph, coordinate pair, distance/time/rate of speed, income/cost/profit, pattern, relationship, rule, scale, table, variable, x-axis, x-coordinate, y-axis, y-coordinate
Summarize: To summarize, you must present just the main points. Details, illustrations, and examples are seldom included in a summary.

1. -Homework: Page 30 Problem #6 a&b...2. .................
OBJECTIVE: To make sense of data given in the form of a table
or a graph [1.4.3 Apply data collection processes to inform,
persuade, or answer questions.] To read a narrative of a
situation that changes over time and make a table and graph
that represent these changes [GLE 1.5.4] To read data given
in a table and make a graph from the table[1.4.4 Find the range
of a set of data.] To read data given in a graph and make a
table from the graph [1.4.5 Read and interpret various data
displays.] To compare tables, graphs, and narratives and
understand the advantages and disadvantages of each form of
representation [1.4.5 Construct bar graphs, circle graphs, line
graphs, box-and-whisker and scatter plots using collected data.
[CU, MC]][1.4.5 Use scatter plots to describe trends and
interpret relationships. [RL, CU]] ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Page

to explain how you found your answer for #12 EXTRA CREDIT find
the pattern for a triangle, a square and a rectangle. (hint:
make a model) Explain your steps.

1. -Homework: Page 33 Problem #12..
2. =WarmUp..........
OBJECTIVE: See 10-4 above. ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Students will
assemble their cut and paste booklets on the trial trip using
the handout and the data from exercise 2.1 to 2.5. They will
work with a partner. Booklet will be due on Friday, October 8
[1.5.2 Write a story about a situation that represents a given
linear equation, expression, or graph. [CU, MC]] NOTES: 3

Trip Booklet Scoring Guide
Trip booklet: Students will be given a map and a print out of the narrative
from each lesson in investigation 2. Students are to work with a partner and
add the
already completed
data from the problems to the story in a manner that makes sense. This will be
a cut-and-paste document-
not
a finished product.
-
There are 5 segments of the trip.
-
Clip the narrative and the map from the handout.
-
For each day you will need:
-
The narrative from the handout
-
The data table and the graph (from the lesson assignments)
-
An explanation of the data table and the graph in your own words - must be
neat and written in ink or computer.
You will have to decide where to out the map - maybe on the cover.
Points are as follows: (Each day)
-
5 points per day x 5 days = 25 possible points
-
__ narrative form handout
-
__ table (labelled)
-
__ graph (labelled)
-
__ description of data in the table and the graph (1 sentence)
-
__ summary of the results of the data in the table and the graph (1 sentence)
-
2 points labelled map
-
5 points - information in order
-
5 points - neatness
Grand total 37 points

3. IC Page 36 ff Problem 3.1..
OBJECTIVE: To change the form of representation of data from
tables to graphs and vice versa [1.4.5 Construct bar graphs,
circle graphs, line graphs, box-and-whisker and scatter plots
using collected data. [CU, MC]] To search for patterns of
change[1.5.4 Apply understanding of equations, tables, and
graphs to represent situations involving linear relationships.]
To describe situations that change in predictable ways with
rules in words for predicting the change [1.4.2 Predict the
probability of future events based on empirical data.
[RL]][1.5.1 Make predictions using linear relationships in
situations. [RL]] To compare forms of representation of data
[1.4.5 Compare different graphical representations of the same
data. [RL, MC]] ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Translate graphs to
tables worksheet. (handout). Start on problem 3.1 page 37
'Renting Bicycles' NOTES: Copy the posted table and plot. End
up with two data tables and two graphs on the same plot.
