OBJECTIVE: •To recognize similar figures and to be able to tell why they are similar [1.3.3][1.3.1] •To understand that any two similar figures are related by a scale factor, which is the ratio of their corresponding sizes •To build a larger, similar shape from copies of a basic shape (a rep-tile) •To find rep-tiles by dividing a large shape into smaller, similar shapes •To understand that the sides and perimeters of similar figures grow by a scale factor and that the areas grow by the square of the scale factor[1.2.1][1.2.3] •To find a missing measurement in a pair of similar figures •To recognize that triangles with equal corresponding angles are similar ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT: Page 31, problem 3.2 and the follow-up.
