Numbered assignments are listed on the day they are DUE!

5-12-2003
1. -ScaleFactor#2...
2. -EqFracWrksht....

OBJECTIVE: Fraction review ACTIVITIES: Glencoe P167 problems 11-34. 1) write the problem 2) make equivalent fractions with a common denominator 3) make decimal equivalents 4) compare NOTES: Copy the problems FIRST to make sure that they are available for homework portion. Make-Up Credit Introduction - Due on 5/21 Students must ask for the sheet. The make-up credit assignment comes from the text series and has to do with proportion problems based on population densities. There is a small piece which requires some research. If completed properly with all math problems stated and labelled and correct answers, this assignment could be worth up to 4 make-ups. There can be no missed assignments during the period of this make-up credit. HOMEWORK: Finish the in-class assignment.

If you are still confused by fractions and what they mean, try this link to see some comparisons of fractions you enter. It will show you the two fractions and the lowest common denominator as pictures - not just numbers. Let me know what you discover. [Fraction Strips]Link Graphic

This project will require groups of three students (or less). It consists of two parts. The first part is to make a model of the solar system using the distance from the earth to the sun as a scale factor of 1. It will be up to the groups to detemine what unit of measure will be represented by 1. (foot, inch, meter, etc.) They will have to calculate the other scale factors from the data in the table. They will need to post this model somewhere.

The second part is to make a model showing the sizes of the planets in relation to each other, again using the diameter of the earth as a scale factor of 1. Units are the choice of the group. This model must also be posted somewhere.

All calculations must be clearly written and marked. All displays must be clearly labelled. Neatness and accuracy count

Extra credit will be awarded to any group that successfully works the scale size of the sun into their presentation.

This project is to be posted by May 23. It will count as a three credit assignment. Mr. LeMieux is normally available to students after school on Tuedays and Thursdays and other times before and after school with some advance communication.
