1. -HW P23 #6....
2. =Prob 2.1........
3. =Prob 2.2........
4. =Prob 2.3........
*Problem 2.1 through 2.3 have been allowed class time for their completion and correction. There is no academic reason they are not to be finished.
OBJECTIVE: #To review locating points in a coordinate system
#To graph figures using algebraic rules #To predict how
figures on a coordinate system are affected by a given rule
#To learn that corresponding angles of similar figures are
equal and that corresponding sides grow by the same factor (per
side) #To compare lengths and angles in similar and
non-similar figures informally #To experiment with examples
and counterexamples of similar shapes. ACTIVITIES: Copy the
measure drill problem as needed and solve as an additional homework requirement. Finish/Collect 2.1, 2.2 and
2.3 NOTES: HOMEWORK: Explain the following rules about the
coordinates (x,y) of any shape: (nx, ny); (x±a, y±b); (nx±a,
ny±b)[In other words, what happens to the plotted picture when
the rule is applied]
2-11-2003

1. =HW MeasureDrill.
2. -HW Trans Rules..
OBJECTIVE: See 2-10 above ACTIVITIES:Copy the measure drill as
needed. Apply the rules discussed in the homework assignment
and the previous Investigation #2 lessons to the set of four
pictures. Be sure to indicate/clarify the use of the term SCALE
FACTOR (see the listed directions below or in-class) NOTES:
HOMEWORK: Start on P27 - Rough draft of answers
- 1. Record the coordinates for the selected figure in the first column
- 2. Apply the rule and recalculate the new coordinates
- 3. Plot the new figure
- 4. Repeat for the other rules
- 5. Repeat for the other figures
- (Note: Rules may vary from figure to figure, students may need to devise their own rules.)
2-12-2003

1. =HW MeasureDrill.
2. =P27 RoughDraft..
OBJECTIVE: See 2-10 above ACTIVITIES: Copy the measure drill as
needed. Distribute Progress Report #9 Students will complete
the translations assigned above. NOTES: HOMEWORK: complete assignments
2-13-2003

1. =ProgReport #9...
2. =HW MeasureDrill.
3. -Finish Translations*....
4. -Translation TEST......
*translations means moving an object on a coordinate grid. Used here, it includes enlargements also.
OBJECTIVE: See 2-10 above. ACTIVITIES: Copy the measure drill
as needed. Test on translations and rules. NOTES: HOMEWORK:
P23 #6
2-14-2003

1. =HW MeasureDrill.
2. -Measure Final...
3. -HW P23 #6.......
OBJECTIVE: #To recognize similar figures and to be able to tell
why they are similar #To understand that any two similar
figures are related by a scale factor, which is the ratio of
their corresponding size #To build a larger, similar shape
from copies of a basic shape (a rep-tile) #To find rep-tiles
by dividing a large shape into smaller, similar shapes #To
understand that the sides and perimeters of similar figures
grow by a scale factor and that the areas grow by the square of
the scale factor #To find a missing measurement in a pair of
similar figures #To recognize that triangles with equal
corresponding angles are similar ACTIVITIES: Measure drills
final. Students who do not pass will have a note inserted into
their file. Page 28, Patterns of similar figures, Lesson 3.1
Identifying similar figures. NOTES: HOMEWORK: From your notes
- Define Scale Factor, Give an example. This will be a journal
entry.
