2-3-2003
1. =Measure Copy....
2. -HW Dilation.....

OBJECTIVE: #To make enlargements of simple figures with a rubber-band stretcher. #To describe in an intuitive way what the word similar means. #To consider relationships between lengths and between areas in simple, similar figures. ACTIVITIES: Independent worksheet 9-10, all items with rubber-band stretcher. NOTES: It is important that students see the 2:1 correspondence and perheaps attempt a 3 rubber band experiment at home - Will qualify as extra credit. HOMEWORK: P11 #5

Extra Credit: Students may experiment with a 3-rubber-band stretcher for three geometric shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, hexagon, etc.). Some basic guidelines are:

  1. All three rubber bands must be the same length.
  2. Care must be taken to draw the figures neatly.
  3. The figures must be drawn first with a 2 band stretcher then the three band streetcher.
  4. there must be a stated conclusion regarding the use of the three band stretcher comparing it to the 2-band stretcher and the size and areas of the original shapes.

This will be a two credit assingment if the conclusions are correct. It will be due on Friday 2-7-2003.

2-4-2003
1. =Measure Copy....
2. -P11 #5 & #6.....

OBJECTIVE: #To review locating points ina coordiante system #To graph figures using algebraic rules #To predict how figures on a coordinate system are affected by a given rule #To learn that corresponding angles of similar figures are equal and that corresponding sides grow by the same factor (per side) #To compare lengths and angles in similar and non-similar figures informally #To experiment with examples and counterexamples of similar shapes. ACTIVITIES: Page 13, Reflections using Workshhet 910 as a basis. Page14 launch Lesson 2.1 - review coordinate locations. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Write Up the Reflections exercise summary on page 13 as a journal entry.
