1. 1cm Grid on Map Handout
OBJECTIVE: [#To review the use of coordinates for specifying
locations; #To use coordinates to specify directions and
distance; #To connect properties of geometric shapes, such as
parallel sides, to coordinate representations.] OBJECTIVE: See
4-25 above. ACTIVITIES: Starting from the lower left hand
corner and using a ruler: Set up a grid with alphabetical label
on the x axis and numerical labels on the y axis. (remember,
the lower LEFT hand corner is the origin. Locate the points
(letter, number)listed on the board/overhead. NOTES: Relates to
ACE 2, 9-11. HOMEWORK: Place Oak Harbor on the map, give its
coordinates. Make a table showing the measurement to the other
points above in centimeters. If Mount Vernon to Everett is 32
miles, use proportion to add a third column to the table for
straight line scale distances. Draw a scale box on the map and
label it.
