What animal do you think eats the most food relative to its own body weight? Would you believe that the shrew, a very small mouse-like mammal, eats 2.5 times its body weight in food every day? How much food would you eat if you ate 2.5 times your body weight every day?

How much food (in pounds) do you think the people at your school eat during an average lunchtime? Estimate this number, and tehn discuss this with your classmates (family, friends). In order to establish this average, you'll need to be able to estimate the weight of everything the people at your school eat during luch. Some good places to get the figures necessary for this estimation are the school cafeteria, your teachers and your classmates. After you have figured out how to establish an average number, keep track over a period of days and record your figures.

Are the averages close to the number you predicted? Judging by these figures, what weight of food does the average student eat each day?[4.1.1][4.1.2][4.2.1]
