OBJECTIVE: Construct [Line Plots]Link Graphic(3-4, Pp101ff)[1.5.2] ACTIVITIES: Review vocabulary; review RANGE, SCALE,INTERVAL; Emphasize the use of rulers to draw lines for line plots and to measure intervals. Using the student data, construct line plots for height, weight and age. Specify the range. LABEL appropriately. NOTES: HOMEWORK: Ideal7-36 "A hot air balloon has to travel 20 miles west to land safely. It is out of fuel and cannot heat any more air. The wind is blowing to the west at five miles per hour. Every fifteen minutes, the balloon cools and loses 50 feet of altitude. MAKE a line plot that shows the movement of the balloon. ANSWER: If the balloon is at 835 feet, will it stay in the air long enough to land safely? WRITE your explanation

NOTES: Requires calculation of mean (calculator) median (order the numbers) and mode (count in ordered list) HOMEWORK: Ideal7-24 The high scorers on the girls basketball team averaged 16 points in their last game. During the game four of the girls scored: 22 points, 21 points, 15 points and 10 points. What was the score for the fifth player?

OBJECTIVE: Determine MEAN MEDIAN and MODE of the class data.[1.4.7] ACTIVITIES: Students will need to determine whether all three forms of central tendency may be used and then calculate all forms of central tendency which apply to the data (all categoreis must be done. NOTES: Carry over to tomorrow. This will be due on 11-6 HOMEWORK: Ideal7-86 Sam is riding in a bicycle race. Two thirds of the course runs uphill, One third runs downhill. When Sam is riding uphill, he rides at an average speed of 12 miles per hour. When he rides downhill, he rides at an average speed of 24 miles per hour. What is his average speed for the course?

Task of the Week

Ideal7-wp2 Task for the week - Due Monday Nov 6

Look through newspapers and magazines for five days. Look for graphs and then cut them out. Sort by type: bar graph, circle graph, line graph, etc. Paste them on paper. Write a brief description of what the graphs display.

Which graphs are easy to read? Do you get a lot of information from each graph? Do any graphs DISTORT(define theis word) the data? Pick one of the graphs and show or tell how you would make it better.
