OBJECTIVE: Solve problems by using simulations(13-6, Pp525ff) ACTIVITIES: After reading the section, students will work in pairs or threes to develop two (2) probability problems, one DEPENDENT, one INDEPENDENT, based on various spinners. They will calculate the theoretical results and then, using the computer simulation program, they will do 10, 20 and 50 trials and compare the EXPERIMENTAL results with the THEORETICAL results. (This will require assigning colors to numbers AND designing the program to fit the equipment) NOTES: HOMEWORK: Each person will write up their results with their data.

Jack and Jane are playing a game with the spinner on the right. Each person spins the spinner twice. The numbers are then added. If the sum is an odd number, Jack gets a point. If the sum is an even number, Jane gets a point. Will you get more even sums, more odd sums, or an equal number of each? Is this game fair? Why or why not? If the game is not fair, how could it be made fair?

Put different numbers on the spinner. Design a new game. Make a version of the game that is fair and a version that is unfair. Try the game with a partner.
