OBJECTIVE:[Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test] ACTIVITIES: NOTES: This test is part of the screening process for placement in algebra in grade 8. It is given to all students at the end of 7th grade and again at the end of eighth grade. HOMEWORK: none new 3-7-2000 1. Problem/Week A...2. Problem/Week B...3. HW P249 Odd...... 4. .................5. .................6. .................
OBJECTIVE:Read and write integers. Find the opposite and
absolute value of an integer (7-1, Pp254ff) Compare and order
integers ((7-2, Pp257ff) ACTIVITIES: Introduction to integers [Introduction to Integers] 3-8-2000 1. HW587(7-1)(7-2)..2. Notes............3. ................. 4. .................5. .................6. .................
OBJECTIVE:[Progress Report #11] Graph points on a coordinate
chart (7-3, Pp259ff) ACTIVITIES: Introduce chart vocabulary;
Explain the Quadrants and the Cartesian System. Do some of 260
and 261 in class. NOTES: [Positive and Negative values/Number Line] 3-9-2000 1. ProgReport#11....2. HW 587 7-3.......3. ................. 4. .................5. .................6. ................. OBJECTIVE:[Substitute] Create a dot-to-dot puzzle. ACTIVITIES: 1)Students will make a sketch of an object/scene to be used as the basis of a dot-to-dot puzzle. [No logos, no initials, no designs or patterns - must be a recognizable object] Te draweing is to cover all four quadrants, and have a MINIMUM of fifty points. Points must be continuous. A point is defined as a location where the line changes direction. NOTES: Line must be continuous. No pick-up-and-move allowed. Retracing must be kept to a minimum. REMEMBER: A DOT MUST MARK A CHANGE OF DIRECTION!!!! HOMEWORK: On a separate sheet of paper, list, in order the grid-coordinates for the dot-to-dot puzzle you have drawn. 3-10-2000 1. HW Coordinates...2. Dot-to-Dot.......3. ................. 4. .................5. .................6. .................
OBJECTIVE:Reconstruct a dot-to-dot from a list of coordinates.
ACTIVITIES: Students will construct a dot-to-dot puzzle from
another student's list of coordinates. Alternative assignment
for those not having either a list of 50 minimum or no list at
all
After you have explored the graph, write an expression that will help
you determine how long it will take the car to travel any given
number
of kilometers. Your expression should work for any point selected
along the line.
NOTE: Your explanation for this problem should include your
answers to the six explore questions as well as other information
concerning how you used the graph to solve the problem.
