4. .................5. .................6. .................

OBJECTIVE: Add and subtract fractions(5-3, Pp182ff) ACTIVITIES: Very brief review of the process for equivalent fractions. Emphasis on finding a common denominator THEN work with the numerators. ALSO - Simplify all problems. Relate to algebraic fractions. NOTES: HOMEWORK: P582 (5-3) column 4

4. .................5. .................6. .................

OBJECTIVE: Add and subtract mixed numbers(5-4, Pp186ff) ACTIVITIES: Review process-esp. borrowing NOTES: HOMEWORK: Draw/make a model to demonstrate 1-2/3 minus 3/4. graphic [ Help for Adding Fractions] graphic [ Help for Subtracting Fractions]

1. HW 1-2/3 - 3/4...2. P582(5-4)col3....3. .................
4. .................5. .................6. .................

OBJECTIVE: Skills evaluation - addition/subtraction of mixed numbers; Multiply fractions and mixed numbers(5-5, Pp191ff) ACTIVITIES: Students are to explain, using diagrams, etc. what the following problems MEAN: 1/2 x 2/3; 3-1/4 x 1-1/3; 6-1/5 x 3/4, in other words explain the numbers in terms of something real, then explain what the problem asks for... NOTES: HOMEWORK: Explain x graphic [ Convert Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions... ]

4. .................5. .................6. .................

OBJECTIVE: Multiply fractions and mixed numbers (5-5, Pp191ff) ACTIVITIES: Review the procedure for multiplication with fractions, i.e., all numbers must be in FRACTION form then multiple numerator x numerator and denominator x denominator then simplify the answer (in lowest terms) NOTES: HOMEWORK: P193 Mid Chapter Review graphic [ Help for Multiplying Fractions]

4. .................5. .................6. .................

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate fraction skills. Find perimeter using fractional measurements(5-6, Pp194ff) ACTIVITIES: Review perimeter formulas and definitions - especially that it is a measure of length. NOTES: HOMEWORK: P583 lesson 5-6

Problem of the week (check the scoring guide) The problem of the week is due on Friday. Students are to use diagrams, charts, and tables as needed. Explain the process used to solve the problem. Be neat. Last Week's solution...

Happy New Year!

I want to know why the puzzle always results in the same sum. Can you explain how the grid is designed so that the sum is a constant?

Magic Square

number grid

Directions for the puzzle:
  1. Choose a number. Circle it. Cross out all of the numbers in the same row and same column as the number you chose.
  2. Choose a number that is not circled or crossed-out. Circle it. Cross out all the numbers in the same row and the same column as the number you chose.
  3. Continue the same process of circling and crossing out numbers until there is only one number left. Circle it.
  4. Add the six circled numbers.
  5. Repeat the process choosing different numbers. Compare your answers.
