Down Hill All The Way - ExtraCredit for 11-15-99

On a recent drive I happened to notice a sign indicating that for the next 4 miles the road would be descending at a 6% grade. After 4 miles I noticed a second sign which indicated that the next 5 miles we would be descending at a 4% grade.

If we had been at 10,000 feet above sea level when I noticed the first sign, how many feet above sea level will the car be when it reaches the end of the 5 miles indicated by the second sign?

6% grade sign Note: A 6% grade means that the road descends 6 feet for every 100 feet traveled. A 4% grade means that the road descends 4 feet for every 100 feet traveled. 4% grade sign
Bonus: If the same total decent was accomplished in 8 miles, what percent grade would the sign need to indicate?
